Kahului Airport to Close Runway for Maintenance

Maui residents are advised to expect an increase in air traffic over the Kahului, Wailuku and Spreckelsville areas at 11:30 p.m. Friday night, May 18, through 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 19 and 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, May 19, through 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 20, while Runway 2-20 is closed at Kahului Airport for maintenance.

Runway 2-20 will be closed at Kahului Airport for maintenance at 11:30 p.m. Friday night, May 18, through 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 19 and 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, May 19, through 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 20.

KAHULUI — The state Department of Transportation advises Maui residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the Kahului, Wailuku, and Spreckelsville area due to airfield maintenance work at Maui Airport.

Runway 2-20 will be closed for airfield maintenance work on:

11:30 p.m. Friday night, May 18, through 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 19.

11:30 p.m. Saturday night, May 19, through 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 20.

During this time, flight patterns will be modified, resulting in increased air traffic over Kahului, Wailuku, and Spreckelsville.

This is a federally funded $1.14 million project encompassing a complete re-wiring of the runway lights and taxiway lights circuits. The taxiway lights will be changed to LED energy efficient lights. The anticipated project completion date is June of 2012.
